Eco Salsa gets you moving and celebrates ecotourism and Costa Rica’s National Parks

Cayuga Sustainable Hospitality has launched Movimientos, a music project to celebrate protecting the beautiful landscape of Costa Rica. Movimientos is Eco Salsa music; it has a message about sustainability and will leave a lasting legacy in the communities surrounding the hotels and resorts of Cayuga Sustainable Hospitality. The music, composed by local Costa Rican composer Pitusa, and played by Orchestra Salsa y Son de Costa Rica (managed by Luis Cardenas), plays to the delight of guests in each of the hotels.

The idea to create Eco Salsa music came from Hans Pfister of Cayuga Sustainable Hospitality and Luis Angel Cardenas of Salsa y Son de Costa Rica, who wanted to make a musical tribute to ecotourism, Costa Rica’s National Parks and the most distinguished sustainable hotels and resorts in Costa Rica.  Cayuga Sustainable Hospitality also ensured that the CD production was carbon neutral.

I have no musical background but it occurred to me that there was an opportunity here to do something special,” said Pfister. “This music is not only beautiful but it has a beautiful message.”

The Movimientos CD includes a signature piece of music for each of the Cayuga Sustainable Hospitality hotels and resorts to celebrate their unique surroundings, people and feel. Composer, Pitusa, who comes from a long line of talented Costa Rican musicians including his father who was a famous pianist and his great grandfather who wrote the national anthem of Costa Rica, visited each property to become inspired to write a song. There are also songs to celebrate Tortuguero-Pacuare, Arenal and Costa Rica’s National Parks.

Our guests have been overwhelmingly enthusiastic about this music,” said Pfister. “They love it because it’s great to dance to and puts the experience of the hotels into movement.”

Proceeds from Movimientos will support the Cayuga Hotel foundation called Equilibrium, a non-profit organization that is active in the areas where the Cayuga hotels are located and is dedicated to improving the lives of people while safeguarding the surrounding natural resources. The foundation supports projects that encourage sustainable community development, improve management of natural resources, further environmental education and advance biodiversity conservation.

Movimientos is so unique and is receiving such accolades that the project’s creators have decided to apply for the 2011 Grammy Awards.
