Cayuga Collection’s Interns: Joseph Smolen and Kaitlin Solimine

Joseph Smolen and Kaitlin Solimine have shared a love for international travel, adventure, and sustainability for twelve years. Since meeting in 2001, their wanderlust has taken them to five continents and a range of travel experiences including swimming with Great White sharks off the coast of Africa, climbing the steps of Tikal, and fending off an overly-friendly monkey in Thailand. They married in Dominical, Costa Rica in 2011.

Joseph”™s work in commercial real estate focuses on multifamily properties in the United States, with a specific interest in LEED certified developments and green housing initiatives. He personally developed plans for Los Angeles”™s first LEED platinum housing community.

Kaitlin is a writer and China specialist whose award-winning work centers upon questions of international relations and environmental issues. She is a columnist covering China”™s sustainability challenges for The World of Chinese Magazine and her forthcoming novel, Empire of Glass, won the 2012 Dzanc Books/Disquiet International Literary Award. She is the co-founder of HIPPO Reads, a literary-based start up.
