National Geographic selected Jicaro Island Ecolodge as one of the world’s best ecolodges this year. A great honor for this small lodge that is part of the Cayuga Collection of Sustainable Luxury Hotels and Eco Lodges with presence in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
What makes Jicaro so special from a guest point of view is the perfect mix of activities such as paddle boarding and climbing volcanoes with complete relaxation on the peaceful island retreat. The food is considered new Nicaraguan cuisine preparing the freshest local ingredients with innovative recipes.
Sustainability has been built into Jicaro from the ground up as the lodge was built with salvaged hardwood from a hurricane that hit the east coast of Nicaragua in fall of 2007. All staff, including management is local and has been trained to the highest standards of service. The lodge actively supports the Padre Nelo School and has been able to help significantly improve the school’s infrastructure and operating supplies.
