The Lapathon 2014 on the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica was a great success. Almost 200 athletes ran 10 kilometers with one conviction: To raise enough money to donate two gynecological chairs to the health center so women in Puerto Jimenez can have preventive tests and pregnancy check ups. This was the 6th edition of the race organized by the Lapa Rios Ecolodge.
In early 2015, the money that was raised with the Lapathon was put to work. The $4,000 that were raised allowed not only to buy the gynecological chairs, but also other medical supplies such as two Doppler, two Nebulizers and two printers that allow the health center to provide a better service to women and the rest of the population. This will significantly improve the quality of the medical attention to the community in and around Puerto Jimenez on the remote Osa Peninsula.
Lapa Rios Eco Lodge on the Osa Peninsula near Corcovado National Park is part of the Cayuga Collection of Sustainable Luxury Hotels and Lodges in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
