What does an Eco Honeymoon Look like?

About a year ago, we were searching for the perfect Eco Honeymoon.   Two couples have come to stay with us at the Cayuga Collection Hotels and Lodges and one more couple is scheduled to come in May.  This exercise has helped us tremendously to improve the honeymoon experience as well as to become more sustainable in several ways.

Last week, we published this video of a honeymoon experience at Lapa Rios Eco Lodge on the Osa Peninsula that captures the essence of what an eco honeymoon could look like.  Take a look…

Travel trends in general tell us that experimental travel is the way of the future.  We have seen this at our hotels for years and are happy that also more and more honeymooners are looking for more meaningful travel experiences during that very special trip.   Less cocktails by the pool and more hikes, excursions and interpreted experiences.  An eco honeymoon is definitely experimental travel.

Experimental Travel: A great guide is key to an excellent rain forest experience.  Walking in a rain forest without a guide might feel like being in a library and not knowing how to read.

The most recurrent positive comments about honeymoon or anniversary experiences by our guests have to do with our staff.  When they are able to create a connection with our staff magic starts to happen.  While sometimes our service is not quite as flawless as in Asia, the connection created between guests and hotel or lodge employees makes all the difference.  At the Cayuga Collection Hotels, Resorts and Eco Lodges, the concept of “Experience – Learn – Connect- Relax” is deeply engraved in the operating philosophy.

The Cayuga Collection Hotels that are perfect for an eco-honeymoon or important anniversary celebration are Jicaro Island Ecolodge in Nicaragua.  Here we offer that perfect combination of relaxation and activities on and around Lake Nicaragua and the Mombacho Volcano.

At Kura Design Villas in Uvita and Latitude 10 Resort in Santa Teresa, you will be guaranteed an intimate environment with highly personalized service as both resorts feature only 6 guestrooms.

Arenas del Mar Beachfront and Rain Forest Resort in Manuel Antonio is the perfect base for an active honeymoon taking advantage of a great variety of sea and land based activities such as kayaking, waterfall rappelling, horseback riding, white water rafting and hiking.

Beach near Corcovado National Park in Costa Rica
The natural beauty of Costa Rica and Nicaragua is the perfect setting for an active vacation.  Many guests at our hotels and lodges try new activities and adventures such as surfiing, raftiing or canopy adventures.

Culinary experiences are an important part of experimental travel and a visit to Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Plantation will allow for a greater understanding of the process of producing high quality organic coffee.  A stay at the Hotel Grano de Oro will allow for a culinary experience that is unrivaled in San Jose.
